We invest in climate projects to offset the carbon footprint generated by your flight. Emission reductions are achieved either by helping others reduce their emissions or by removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
Transparency and documented proof that the investments provide real benefits and that the activities they support make a genuine difference are, of course, top priorities. Therefore, we collaborate with the Swedish organization GoClimateNeutral.
Carbon offsetting is usually achieved through various climate projects in developing countries, primarily through energy efficiency or investments in renewable energy such as solar and wind installations.
All projects we invest in through GoClimateNeutral carry the Gold Standard certification.
Gold Standard was established in 2003 by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) and around 80 other international non-profit and non-governmental organizations to "ensure that projects reducing CO₂ emissions meet the highest levels of environmental integrity and also contribute to sustainable development." Today, there are over 1700 active Gold Standard projects worldwide.
By investing in Gold Standard-certified projects, real climate benefits are achieved while simultaneously supporting several of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, such as poverty reduction and cleaner air and water.
We want to make it clear that all of us – to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in all areas, including the emissions caused by travel. Properly conducted carbon offsetting is better for the climate than traveling without offsetting, but it does not replace the need to also reduce the actual emissions for which we are all responsible.
